Presentation

PowerPoint Presentation.

These are my 18 slides I presented to my class.

Final Evaluation

Overall Evaluation.

I am pleased with the body of work produced, I feel that I have worked extremely hard to produce it all at a good standard. However I do believe if I had more time I may of been able to develop my designs further.

If I were to do this over I would find a way to manage my time better. As it became a little over whelming with other deadlines to meet.

One thing I would have liked to touch on more I would say are my illustrations. hopefully I will have the time to create more at a better standard during the second half of the brief.

I feel during this process of creating my work I have learnt a lot, not only have gained new skills such as becoming a photoshop whizz but i've learnt a lot about myself. I worry to much and I always want to perfect everything I produce. Although it may help me produce good work, I think I need to stop doubting my abilities.

I have mostly enjoyed doing this brief, i'm happy I chose The Wanderer and i'm pleased with the direction I took it in. I feel my idea's and influences guided me in producing a good body of work, plus design is my favourite thing to do but it seems more worthwhile when its something you really believe in and want to create.

Designs

My Designs.

Here are most of my designs, these were all done in a separate A5 sketchbook. Over all i'm happy with how they look however as theres no colour I have decided to develop these further I will scan each of my favourite designs and develop them further by adding prints I have created using my own primary work.

Fabric Reaserch

After many days out looking at different fabric samples, in various places around Liverpool and manchester. I managed to collect lots of different fabrics.

Some of my favourites below.
A mixture of cords, satin, velvet and wool.

Although I liked the fabrics above I was still was unsure on what to use. When speaking with my pattern & construction teacher about how CHANEL would influence my designs she told be about Linton Tweeds.

Linton Tweeds are one of the main suppliers for CHANEL haute couture range! this was fantastic news as it was perfect for my whole concept. I then visited the website and ordered a sample bundle including colours I hope to use in my collection. I will display these in a separate A5 sketchbook.

When my fabrics arrived I was best pleased with the quality all of these fabrics are woven in such a beautiful way. The fact the fabrics where woven made them look hand crafted which I really like the idea of as traditional moroccan fabrics and textiles are mainly hand crafted.

Below are a few samples from Linton Tweed.

Interview with the founders of DAR BEIDA Moroccan living.

I had planned on interviewing the owner of local business DAR BEIDA  that supplies hand crafted goods directly from morocco. but unfortunately I was not able to have this done on time due to unforeseen circumstances.

When speaking to Bushra  Mansoor co founder of the business she explained to me that they often visit morocco to meet with suppliers. All of there products are had crafted in traditional ways for example rugs are hand woven using old school methods.

The reason I wanted to meet with Bushra was to gain a better understanding on how things are made how long it takes and why morocco still use traditional methods of craft, will it ever be modernised.

Artists that inspire this Collection

Mark Rothko 1903-1970 Was an American painter of Russian Jewish decent. Rothko is known as a abstract expressionist.
The reason I chose this artist is purely based on his use of colour I find its quite fitting to my theme of Morocco.
I will try and re-create my primary images taking inspiration of how Rothko paints.

Jacques Majorelle

Jacques Majorelle was born in 1886 in Nancy, France, the son of the famous furniture designer, Louis Majorelle.

After three years of architectural studies,  Majorelle decided to dedicate his life to his primary passion in painting. He Travelled through Brittany, Spain, Italy but His trip to Egypt in 1910 led to his fascination with the Islamic world and its culture; he lived there for nearly four years.

In 1917, he arrived in  Marrakesh Morocco, the oasis-city whose colours, light and “souks soaked with fertile and happy life” immediately bewitched him. He started by painting street scenes in the city of Marrakech and portraits. Between 1919 and 1930, Jacques Majorelle completed eight long expeditions to the south of Morocco, which provided him with the hemes for his paintings of villages or souks and led to the publication of an album on the casbahs. The diary of his trip in 1922, entitled, “Jacques Majorelle, Road Trip Diary of a Painter in the Atlas and the Anti-Atlas,” was the only text he ever published.
Poster by Jacques Majorelle

In 1923, Jacques Majorelle bought a plot of land, situated on the border of a palm grove in Marrakech. The spot was planted partly with poplars, showing the water and inspired the artist with a name for his new property, Bou Saf Saf. This is the property that was later owned by the late Yves Saint Laurent.

I plan to take inspiration from Majorelle's work when it comes to creating my illustrations.

Colour & Texture

After lots of fabric searching I think I have my Final colour pallet. this makes me happy, I chose to use Three colours in different shades that have many meanings to the Moroccan culture.

Some of the popular colours of morocco and the cultural meanings.

Colour & texture board is simple and showcases all the colours I hope to use within my collection. I am not best pleased with the outcome of this board its lacking something and i'm not quite sure what.
This book has been a great inspiration for me it also informed me all about the meaning of colours to the people of morocco.

Print Development

Prints.

This is a print I created simply by scanned an embellished sample I created. I cropped and repeated the images and created this. I don't believe I will use this as a Print however it will be useful for me to use within my design to show me how this type of embellishment will look on my designs.

Here is a print development page I have created as you can see at the top I have taken my free stitched sample and scanned it along with my chosen tassels. I then began repeating and layering and created these prints I am happy with these results however some of the prints I don't find relevant to my colour choices for my collection some of these prints may be used within my collection or later down the line when I design my accessories for my collection such as bags or scarfs.

Here I have replicated a primary image in a painting style of my chosen artist Mark Rothko. I then scanned the image and repeated it several times. I then scanned a fabric sample as you can see above and began playing around with filters and created many prints. I really love that these prints are so blue , however I will develop these further as you will see below by adding  a embroidery sample I created.

For these prints I scanned my embroidery sample, a fabric sample and a previous print that i had created. I really like most of these prints however I don't think I will use all of them. I most likely use the top three as I find them most fitting to my colour theme.

These are some of my least favourite prints, I just think the colours are fitting to my collection. they look a little unprofessional, however whilst creating my prints some bad prints have lead me to some of my better prints.
